Brighton Surf Life Saving Club (BSLSC) is a volunteer run charity formed to save lives..
…and improve the safety of beaches for our local community in Brighton & Hove through prevention and training in lifesaving skills.
About Us
BSLSC’s skilled and qualified volunteer coaches provide professionally recognised training in Surf Lifesaving; enabling all members to become competent lifesavers; with members going on to serve their local community as first responders and voluntary or professional lifeguards working on Brighton & Hove’s beaches; nationally for the RNLI or worldwide.
What We Do
BSLSC provides a vital service to Brighton and Hove’s extremely popular beachfront improving the safety of this environment for all within the community who use this space throughout the year. The club works closely with other community organisations. BSLSC is the primary source of water safety management for major charity swims and water sports events held in the city.
We are also closely involved with projects which provide safe; supported and controlled access to the sea for special educational needs and disability groups. BSLSC also delivers an annual school’s program where up to 800 local children a year are taught about sea safety; the beach environment and being a lifeguard.
Our committee; coaches and voluntary Lifeguards are all members of the local community. Many of our volunteers; parents and younger people are involved in other projects related to the beach environment; including working with young people experiencing physical and mental health issues; local swimming clubs and other community sporting activities.
We have a regular physical and visible presence on the beachfront and engage with members of the community frequently as beach users often want to hear more about the work of the club. We work closely with the local seafront office; the RNLI and other relevant organisations. BSLSC members have also been deployed to assist the Council's seafront team in patrolling the beaches giving advice to beach users
Our qualified (Lifeguard) members also regularly give advice on our local beaches & perform regular interventions and beach rescues saving lives. Members also go into the community to deliver CPR and AED training to other community groups like the Scouts/Guides.
