Sandhoppers!

A new session for BSLSC in 2024 is Sandhoppers!.

Sandhoppers cater for children aged 5 to 7 and provides a great early introduction to our ocean safety training and the lifesaving pathway. Sandhoppers are our youngest members and train during the summer months from June through to August only.

Activities include beach games like flags, obstacle courses and going into the sea when conditions allow. The aim of Sandhoppers is to start beach safety awareness early on, building confidence and experience ahead of joining the Nippers group.

BSLSC continues to follow national guidance on sea-based activity during the ongoing Covid19 health crisis.

We are now able to return to training under the guidance issued by SLSGB and working to safety systems approved by SLSGB. These systems are based on a training group size limit of 30, inclusive of trainers and safety support and are explained in our club safety documentation.

It remains vital that the club works within the recommended limits to ensure that the club retains its reputation for promoting the responsible use of our beaches and the sea.

To reiterate the current advice from SLSGB:

Following the latest announcement by the Government this week that will come into force on September 14th we can confirm that this will not impact our current club activity for both 6 people Bubbles and the up to 30 at any one time activities.  This is only permitted for those clubs who have complied with our COVID-19 return to play protocols – Appointment of a C19 Club Safety Officer, online training and approval by SLSGB of a Club C-19 risk assessment and safe activity plan.

While social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England from 14 September, the government has confirmed that organised sports and activities that have been through return to play protocols can continue, as can organised outdoor sports and physical activity events.

As a breach of the latest guidance will be unlawful and all activity for more than six people will now come under closer scrutiny, please make sure that you are following your SLSGB approved plan.  IF IN DOUBT PLEASE ASK!

Stay healthy, stay classy and I’ll see you on the beach!

Dear all,

You won’t be surprised to hear that following yesterday’s announcement of a national lock-down, all club training is cancelled until further notice.

We will let you know of any future plans as soon as we can but for the moment we all just need to stay safe and follow the guidance provided.
